The Russian Academy of Arts presents a major retrospective of works by the renowned sculptor, People’s Artist of Russia, Academician, Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor Salavat Scherbakov.


The creative work of one of the eminent modern artists Salavat Scherbakov is prolific and versatile. He was born in Moscow in 1955 and in 1978 graduated from S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industries. His professional career boasts monuments, architectural and sculptural ensembles, decorative sculptural compositions, memorial monuments and plaques. Salavat Scherbakob has authored dozens of unique interiors of museum and public buildings. His best easel works are in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Armory Museum of the Moscow Kremlin, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the State Russian Museum, London Art Gallery and other museums, as well as private galleries in Sweden, France, Belgium, Netherlands, USA, Australia. 


Salavat Scherbakov has created a lot of sculptures dedicated to key events of Russian history, monuments to Russian statesmen, scientists, spacemen, figures of culture and art. The exhibition  features  his portraits of architect Konstantin Ton, sculptor Alexey Sotnikov, artist Ilya Glazunov, marshal Alexander Vasilevsky, statesman Petr Stolypin, aircraft designer Sergey Korolev and Andrey Tupolev, engineer Vladimir Shukhov, geographer Boris Rodoman, President Boris Yeltsin and others.


The viewers will have an opportunity to watch the work of the master at his monument “We Were Together in the Struggle Against Fascism” on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow and the War Memorial in Netania (Israel). Monuments by Salavat Scherbakov can be seen in many cities of Russia, the majority of them are located  in his native city – Moscow. The exhibition includes sketches and fragments of the monument to Prince Vladimir in Borovitskaya Square, sculpture of Alexander I and Patriarch Hermogenes in Alexander Garden, images of the saints created for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in honor of the 100th anniversary of restoration of the Patriarchate in Russia. For the first time there will be presented a relief for the façade of the Principle Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces that is being constructed in the Patriot park.


The display has been arranged according to theme principle and showcases key topics and images which Salavat Scherbakov has been creating since the 1990s. Besides the retrospective character, the exhibition also focuses on the role of sculpture in the city space, the art photographs and video materials will contribute to immersion in architectural and spatial environment of the city, as well as give an idea of different stages of monuments creation.
