EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY ANDREY BALASHOV AND IVAN BALASHOV AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor of V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute, sculptor Andrey Balashov and his son, artist Ivan Balashov. Timed to the 65th anniversary of Andrey Balashov, it is the first major retrospective featuring over 70 sculptures executed by the master in various genres: portraits, theme and historical compositions, animalistic works, sketches. A special section is dedicated to photographs of his monuments contributing to understanding of the vast scale of the sculptor’s creativity and artistic searches.
Andrey Balashov is one of the leading masters of contemporary Russian sculpture who continues the traditions of the realistic school. He was born in 1957, graduated fr om V. Surikov Moscow State art Institute wh ere he majored in sculpture under Professor Mikhail Baburin. In one of his interviews the artist recollected, that his teacher had brought in him a demanding attitude to himself, full dedication in creativity, thoughtfulness of plastic solutions.
Andrey Balashov successfully works in easel and monumental sculpture. He has been involved in recreation of the sculptural decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, authored monuments installed in Russia and other countries devoted to historical figures, war heroes, statesmen, Orthodox Saints, figures of culture, as well as sculptural compositions commemorating historical events. “In sculpture, the ratio of masses, weights, directions, exes is important – says Balashov. Sculpture is a mysterious thing. For the sculptor, of major interest is a man, as he is the best creation of the God”.
One of the halls showcases works by Ivan Balashov. He was born in 1984 and is also a graduate of V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute where he studied under Mikhail Pereyaslavets. He is a Member of the Moscow Union of Artists, Union of Moscow Sculptors, is actively involved in teaching and exhibition activity. Ivan Balashov is an author of artworks produced in various genres and techniques. These are small city monumental sculptures and interior compositions, graphic sheets and wall paintings. He tries himself in the theatrical and contemporary arts. His striving for a deep study of fine arts has resulted in the postgraduate course in art history. The exhibition presents Ivan Balashov’s series of sculptural and graphic works of various years.
