President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli Spoke at the Meeting of the Public Chamber

     On September 3, 2007 – the day of terrorist act in Beslan,  the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia Zurab Tsereteli  spoke at the meeting of the Public Chamber about the role of art in preservation of historical memory, upbringing of new generations, struggle against violence.
     The participants of the meeting, among them were pediatrician Leonid Roshal, Chairman of the Duma Committee for Security Vladimir Vasiliev, People’s Actor of Russia Valeri Zolotukhin, stressed that the tragedy of 2004, that had shaken not only Russia, but the world, would remain our common pain. The terrorism is a terrible reality of these days and the struggle against it and security have become the State polity.
     In his speech Zurab Tsereteli said that works of art depicting an artist’s pain and sympathy,  humanity, kindness  always reverberate in the hearts of people, uncover new understanding of life and human nature. Monuments in memory of world tragedies become a tuning fork for the moral feelings of every person.
