Evening Commemorating the Famous Lancere Dynasty of Artists, Sculptors and Architects

On November 2, 2007  the Russian Academy of Arts held a memorial evening dedicated to the famous Lancere family including its founder, the 19th century sculptor Eugene A. Lancere.  His children followed in their father’s footsteps –  his daughter Zinaida (Serebryakova by marriage) emigrated to Paris in the early 1920s and acquired worldwide recognition as a painter; his son Nickolai became an architect and professor in the history of arts; Eugene E. Lancere (Lancere II) was an academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, a co-founder of the “World of Art” artistic group which shaped new ideas and styles that had a profound influence on the development of modern culture, a celebrated master of painting and graphic art, a talented illustrator of Russian classical prose;  his son Lancere III, also an artist, assisted his father and finished some of his frescoes after his death. The family tradition is now upheld by Eugene Lancere IV who is a sculptor like the founder of the dynasty.
