President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli Was Reelected a Member of the Public Chamber of Russian Federation

     The President of the Russian Academy of Arts has been reelected a member of the Public Chamber.
     The results were announced on November 25, 2007. From the second part of 42 members of the Public Chamber, twenty five of them were reelected, seventeen people became new members. 
     According to the federal law On the Public Chamber of Russian Federation, its 126 members shall be elected in three stages: first, the President selects and approves 42 members for their distinguished merits for the state and society; then the first 42 members shall elect 42 more deputies from All-Russia public associations. These 84 members in turn shall elect 42 representatives of regional and interregional public associations.
     Among the members of the Public Chamber are noted Russian figures of science, culture, businessmen, politicians, representatives of national communities.
     The Public Chamber is a state institution created in 2005 to analyze draft legislation and monitor the activities of the parliament, government and other governmental bodies of Russia. It has consultative powers.  A convocation of the Chamber is in power for a two-year term.
