Efforts of the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Fyodorovna in the Organization of a Common Cemetery for Soldiers and Nurses Fallen in World War I and Construction of the Cathedral-Memorial of the Transfiguration of Our Lord

The Russian Academy of Arts, the Moscow Government, the Foundation “Elizavetinsko-Sergievskoye Enlightenment Society”, the Center for Traditional Russian Culture “Preobrazhenskoye”, Moscow City Department of the All-Russian Society for Preservation of Monuments of History and Culture invite you to attend a panel discussion on the topic: Efforts of the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Fyodorovna in the Organization of a Common Cemetery for Soldiers and Nurses Fallen in World War I and Construction of the Cathedral-Memorial of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, that will take place in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) on April 14, 2014 at 12.00

This year Russia marks the 150th  birth anniversary of the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Fyodorovna and the 100th anniversary of the WWI beginning. The Foundation “Elizavetinsko-Sergievskoye Enlightenment Society” is arranging a number of memorial events.

The panel discussion will deal with a wide range of themes including memorial complexes of common cemeteries in Europe, today’s condition of the territory of the Common Cemetery in Moscow, recreation of the memorial complex and its artistic and architectural decoration, recreation of the Cathedral-Memorial of the Transfiguration of our Lord (1915-1918) designed by the architect Alexey V. Shchusev

Panelists of the discussion: representatives of counties-participants and co-belligerents of Russia in WWI, religious and public organizations, specialists in the preservation of the cultural heritage, architects and artists, art historians.
