The 28th Alpatov Readings in 2017 will be dedicated to the 260th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts and the 70th anniversary of the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the RAA.

In recent decades the scientific reflection on theoretical foundations of the history of art and historical ways of its development occupies a leading position in the research space of the humanitarian knowledge. The interest in this subject has considerably increased in connection with the visible theoretical and methodological shift that occurred in the last decades of the 20th century and put the modern art history in a distinct opposition to its classical paradigm.  In this context, of major significance is an understanding of contribution of the national scientific school to the development of art science taking into account that the history of the 20th century Russian art is an interesting subject to study in its various aspects – epistemological, theoretical and methodological, comparative, social. At the same time, papers relating to earlier periods and dealing with initial forms of emergence and institutionalization of art researches in Russia will also be of interest to art historians. The project is planned to become a basis for future studies in this field.

Topics to be discussed:

1. Russian art science in the context of the world art science;
2. Pre-history and early stages of art science in Russia;
3. Stages of the development of art science in Russia and the Soviet Union;
