Memorial Event Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the President of the Imperial Academy of Arts Maximilian de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg

The Sergievsky Memorial Foundation and the Russian Academy of Arts invite you to attend a memorial event commemoration the 200th birth anniversary of the eminent statesman of Russia, member of Imperial Romanov House, President of the Imperial Academy of Arts Maximilian de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg (1817-1852), that will take place in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka street, Moscow) on November 20, 2017 at 16.30.

Throughout his active service to Russia Duke Maximilian has made a big contribution to Russian art. Promoting the idea of application of galvanoplastics in engraving, he set up a St. Petersburg Workshop for Galvanoplastics and Art Bronze that produced bas-reliefs and statues.

Maximilian de Beauharnais, Duke of Leuchtenberg brought to Russia a vast collection of paintings, which was later displayed in the halls of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Since 1843 till his death he headed the Imperial Academy of Arts, efficiently participated in the Academy’s activity and initiated the establishment of the Academy’s Mosaic Department.
