Way to Mastership: Russian and European Art of the XV-beginning of XX centuries

    The 250-th anniversary of Russian academy of Arts in 2007 begins with the number of representative artistic projects. The exhibition “Way to Mastership: Russian and European Art of the XV-beginning of XX centuries” from the funds of Saint-Petersburg Scientific Research Museum of the Academy is one of them.

   The exhibition opens on December, 19, 2006 at the exhibitional halls of “Zurab Tsereteli’s Art Gallery”.

   Exposition includes the unique works of the students of the Imperial academy of arts, collected at the period of more than two hundred years of its existence – studies and sketches, programs, graphics, architectural projects, signed with high awards.

   Sections of Russian and European art introduce to the richness of the academic collection. Among the exhibits is the painting “Resurrection of the Iair’s Daughter” by V.Polenov, pensioner work of G.Ugryumov “Abduction of Europe” (1789, copy from the original by Veronese) and many others.      

   Copies from the originals of P.-P.Rubens, J.de Ribera, A.Van Dyck, P.Breugel, G.Reni and others are the works of doubtless interest.

   Architectural department includes works of the students of the Imperial Academy of Arts and especial in their beauty and mastership of the execution pensioner works. These are the works of N.Benua, A.Brullov, G.Grimm, G.Kosyakov, K.Rahau, V.Schuko, G.Gau, N.Martos, A.Schedrin and others.   

   European art is presented by the works of the artists of the Italian, Flemish, Dutch, German and French schools.

   At the process of the scientific work of the art historians and restorers of the Scientific Research Museum of Russian Academy of Arts the number of significant discoveries were done. The painting “Panel with the Vase, Dog and Hare” (1775) was attributed to the member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris, main inspector of the Tapestry manufacture French master J.-B.Oudri.

   The exhibition reflects the way of formation of the homeland artistic school. Russian Academy of Arts is the keeper of its high traditions.
