Works of Art by Sculptor Michael Anikushin Are on Display in Raphael Hall of the Academy Museum

     On show to be inaugurated in Raphael Hall of the Academy Museum in St.Petersburg on October 2, 2007 will be replicas of monuments by one of the celebrated Russian sculptors, People’s Artist of the USSR and Full Member of the USSR Academy of Arts Michael Anikushin. The exhibition is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the sculptor’s birth. Well-known are his monuments to Alexander Pushkin in Arts Square and to Heroic Defenders of Leningrad in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 in the Victory Square in St. Petersburg, monument to Anton Chekhov in Moscow and many other monumental works that found their home in various cities of Russia. Besides his monumental sculptures, Michael Anikushin has created numerous sculptural portraits of noted figures of Russian art and science as well as designed many memorial monuments.
     The exposition will also include bibliographical photographs of the sculptor providing a retrospective of both his private life and cultural life of Leningrad in the Soviet period.
