Exhibition of Paintings by Victor Kalinin

Paintings by the noted Moscow artist, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Victor Kalinin will be on show in the exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of Arts (21 Prechistenka str., Moscow)  from October 30 – November 18, 2007.
Victor Kalinin belongs to the generation of artists of the 1970s. He was born in the Altai village in the family of Old Believers and was the 12th child in his family. The land where he was raised has become his “spiritual fortress” and source of topics for his art. Through mastering the traditions of iconography, Russian symbolism, Michael Vrubel’s art the painter comprehended a deeply moral, spiritual way of life. His early works look like old Russian paintings. Later his palette became more rich and complicated.
Kalinin’s canvases on Biblical topics are full of passions and diversity of feelings. The contents of his paintings are beyond  Biblical topics, which are, as he himself defines, a “reflection of Biblical themes”.
Among the artist’s portraits a special place belongs to the image of his father who has become the main character of a number of his remarkable paintings.  Victor Kalinin’s landscapes are characterized by the dramatic tension of the world of  nature. The powerful elements of color can be seen in all his works.   Kalinin wants “to hear colors and to see sounds”.  The range of his coloring is enormous – from dazzling  flashes to light color twinkling.
