Dialogues with History: Major Retrospective of Works by Leonid Baranov

The celebrated Moscow sculptor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Leonid Baranov marks his 65th anniversary with a major retrospective of his works in “Provision Warehouses” complex in Moscow. Entitled Dialogues with History, it includes 200 works by the master to be exhibited on the area of 2000 sq. meters. 

 

The “Dialogue with History” is one of the principle topics of the sculptor’s creative work resulted in a big gallery of sculptural portraits of outstanding people of the Russian and European history and culture.

 

The exposition combines both sculptures and compositional plastic art, which Baranov’s solo exhibitions are known for. Chamber sculpture will be displayed together with models of his public monuments. Visitors will see the variety of media that the sculptor uses in his works: casting in bronze and aluminium; the use of plaster as the first casting and basis for a color image; copper caulking; combination of various materials in one sculpture and others.

 

Leonid Baranov is famous for his series of sculptures of his two favorite characters    Alexander Pushkin and Fedor Dostoevsky, among his public monuments created for Moscow are a memorial plaque dedicated to Vasily Kandinsky on the house in Zubovskaya square, monument to architects Vasily Bazhenov and Matvey Kazakov for Tsaritsyno complex; bust of Alexander Suvorov for Catherine’s park; monument to Peter I and Doctor Bidloo on the territory of N. Burdenko Military Hospital in Lefortovo, etc.

 

Leonid Baranov is internationally recognized. His works are in museums and private collections in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan,  Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Frankfurt on the Main,   London, Vienna, New York, Boston, Toronto and many other cities.
