Studio: Solo Show of Works by the People’s Artist of Russia Victor Glukhov in the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a solo show of paintings by Victor Glukhov, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Chairman of the Moscow Union of Artists that comprises more than 100 portraits, landscapes, still lifes executed by the artist from 1994 till 2011.

Victor Glukhov was born in Moscow in 1946. In 1973 he graduated from V. Lenin Moscow Teachers’ Training Institute where he studied graphic art under noted masters such as V.P. Efanov, K.M. Maximov, S.I. Dudnik. Since 1976 the artist’s creative biography has been connected with the Moscow Union of Artists. Soon after the graduation Victor Glukhov started to exhibit his works distinguished by his own pictorial language, stylistics, color and a life-affirming mood to which he remained true up to the present.

Victor Glukhov has been influenced by Paul Cezanne, Peter Konchalovsky, artists of the Jack of Diamonds group, attracted by the art of Andrey Surovtsev, Edward Bragovsky, Albert Papikyan belonging to the Moscow school of painting.

The artist depicts what would seem to be everyday subjects, his near ones, Central Russian countryside. Many of his landscapes are dedicated to Tarusa, Borovsk, Suzdal, Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, Serpukhov, where the traditional landscape of mood is reinterpreted in the spirit of new stylistic searchings. A special place in the exposition belongs to his brilliant still lifes full of pictorial and emotional expression. The color in his works sometimes reminds of smalt or some precious stones and gives this everyday genre an eternal quality.

The name of the solo exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts is connected with the artist’s studio in Skhodnya, one of the most beautiful places in the Moscow area, that is his creative laboratory, microcosm and holy land, where everything exists in harmony, gives him an inner comfort and happy moments of his unity with nature.

Victor Glukhov is a holder of the Silver Medal and “To the Worthy” Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. His works are in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in museums of fine arts in Yaroslavl, Tomsk, Stavropol, Lipetsk, as well as in private collections in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Finland, France and Russia.
