Sections: Solo Show of Works by the People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Rukavishnikov

The solo show at the State Museum of Modern Art of the Russian Academy of Arts features works by the renowned sculptor, People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor Alexander Rukavishnikov.

Born on October 2, 1950 in Moscow in a family of sculptors, Alexander Rukavishnikov is an author of many public monuments in Russia and other countries, these are his monuments to Fyodor Dostoevsky, Vladimir Vysotsky, Yury Nikulin, Alexander II, John Lennon, Vasily Tatischev, Mikhail Bulgakov, Vladimir Nabokov, Mikhail Sholokhov, Lev Yashin, etc.

The exhibition entitled Sections presents Alexander Rukavishnikov’s paintings and sculptures executed in new forms. Rukavishnikov is interested in collisions and explosions of the reality, that are produced by him in unusual correlations of materials and shapes. “Free realism” as the sculptor defines his style gives his works the persuasiveness of not a single fact, but the vigorous power of the artistic language in general.

Works by Alexander Rukavishnikov are in collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, Ludwig Museum, museums of Siemens, Hermes, John Wilson and other private collections.

Since 1993 Prof. Alexander Rukavishnikov has been heading a Sculpture Department of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and since 1994 – his private studio of sculpture.
