Solo Show of Works by the People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Burganov at the Russian Academy of Arts in Honor of the 80th Anniversary of the Artist

The Russian Academy of Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery, A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow State Museum “Burganov House”, Museum of Classic and Modern Art “Burganov Center”, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry present a solo show of the world renowned sculptor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Burganov. The exhibition showcasing the artist’s sculpture, graphic art and tapestries is timed to his 80th anniversary.

Alexander Burganov has made a significant contribution to the promotion of Russian school of monumental sculpture, he is a Laureate of the USSR State Prize, Professor, Doctor of Art History. He was born in Baku on March 20, 1935. In 1959 he graduated fr om the Moscow Higher College of Arts and Industry where he majored in monumental and decorative sculpture under E.F. Belashova and G.I. Motovilov.

His works are in major museums and private collections in many countries, his monuments can be seen in cities of Russia, Europe, America and Asia including the monument to Yury Gagarin in Canada, monument to Alexander Pushkin in Washington, to the poet Vasili Zhukovsky in Baden-Baden, “Two Emperors” monument in Brussels and many others. Well-known in Moscow are his monument to Alexander Pushkin and Natalia Goncharova, fountain “Princess Turandot” in Old Arbat, monuments to Mikhail Lermontov, Ivan Bunin, Elena Gnesina – founder of the Academy of Music; sculptural park ensembles of the Ukrainian Boulevard and Sivtsev Vrazhek street; portraits-bas-reliefs of great Russian  artists adorning the “Tretyakovskaya” subway station, etc.

In the last decade the sculptor’s creative work has become an integral part of the European art space. Of big interest is his sculptural ensemble for the open-air exposition in France, presented by Pierre Cardin in Lacoste near Avignon and in Paris in Champs-Elysees.

Alexander Burganov is a founder and Director of the Moscow State Museum “Burganov House” that has become a cultural center wh ere there was realized an idea of the synthesis of arts – architecture, sculpture, music and theater.
