The Russian Academy of Arts and I. Kramskoy Voronezh Art Museum present the exhibition “Among the Like-Minded Artists” dedicated to the 180-th anniversary of Ivan Kramskoy (1837-1887), the distinguished Russian master of portrait, historical and genre painting, Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts, as well as to the 85th anniversary of the Voronezh Art Museum.

The exhibition of almost 60 paintings and graphic works includes both works of Ivan Kramskoy and by his like-minded colleagues - the famous Wanderers (or Itinerants) who became members of the progressive Russian democratic association “The Society for Travelling Art Exhibitions”. Ivan Kramskoy was one of the main founders and ideologists of the Society. These are artists Isaak Levitan, Arkhip Kuinji, Grigori Myasoedov, Vasily Polenov, Victor Vasnetsov, Appolinary Vasnetsov, Alexander Buchkury and others.

The exhibition marking the jubilee of Ivan Kramskoy at the same time is a page of history of the Volonezh region and a reminder of the talented people who greatly contributed to the preservation of its cultural heritage. The Voronezh Art Museum now presenting its collection in the Russian Academy of Arts was set up in 1933 and based on the artworks of the Voronezh Regional Museum of Local History and the Museum of Antiquities and Fine Arts of the Voronezh State University.

The collection of Ivan Kramskoy’s works appeared in the 1920s-1930s due to the efforts of the artist’s son Anatoly Kramskoy and the art historian Prof. Yury Uspensky who played the role of a mediator in the relations between the city public and the artist’s family. At present I. Kramskoy Voronezh Art Museum boasts of more than thirty paintings of the eminent artist.
