The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of 50 paintings by the Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Roman Lyapin, holder of the Prizes of competitions in Toscana and Lazio (Italy), nominee for Grand Prix in the painting competition in Arcinazzo-Romano (1996). The artist’s works are in private collections in Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, USA, Japan and other countries. The recognized and successful master Roman Lyapin  is a participant of  many exhibition projects worldwide.

Roman Lyapin was born in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1966 and graduated fr om Vera Mukhina Lenindrad Higher College for Arts and Industries. Being a student in the early 1990-s he was invited by the Italian art collector to visit Rome – the center of world art and mecca for artists fr om around the world. Roman  Lyapin continued his education in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma (1993-1998) and worked there in 1999-2005 as a teacher in painting. The years spent in Rome have made a great influence on his art career. The artist bases on the traditions of classic European school, Russian realism and is also under the impact of modern Italian painting. In 2005 Roman Lyapin returned to St. Petersburg wh ere he continues working as a painter mostly in the city landscape genre.

The city in the artist’s canvases is presented as a complex system of many components wh ere architectural buildings merge with the natural landscape.  The sky as a symbol of the higher and eternal beginnings acts as the main tuning fork of the artist’s cityscapes. The topographic accuracy of Roman Lyapin’s nature landscapes often co-exists with generalized images of the city resulting from the artist’s imagination. The recent theme of the artist is a winter landscape characterized by the bizarre game of color spots and picturesque textures.

The brilliant mastery of light and color images makes it possible for the painter to depict various emotional conditions – from contemplative and romantic to major and life-affirming. Roman Lyapin says about his art concept: “It is like I am flying over the city and looking down at it capturing this visible beauty…”.

The worship of classical culture, the ability to combine today’s life of megalopolises with their historical past, to convey the variability of states of the city life as a single organism or fragmentarily, to see the eternal in the private, to admire the city as a great manifestation of human creativity, each time to experience the perfection and grandeur of nature - all these are the “space” of city landscapes of Roman Lyapin.
