Mintimer Shaimiev Visited an Exhibition of Works by Zurab Tsereteli in Kazan

Kazan, February 4, 2008, Tatar-Inform, Timur Shaidullin. Today, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev has visited a solo exhibition of works by President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of USSR and Russia Zurab Tsereteli that is on display in the “Khazine” National Art Gallery in the Kazan Kremlin.

During his visit to the show,  Mintimer Shaimiev has focused his interest on the fragment of the statue to Peter the Great and a composition of bronze high-reliefs Townspeople. The latter, as President Shaimiev put it, “uniquely reproduces the spirit of the time and the city”. The head of the Republic of Tatarstan also viewed the halls with works dedicated to Fedor Shalyapin and Rudolf Nuriev, as well as highly appreciated the artist’s cloisonnй enamels.

or of the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts  has been opened since December 11, 2007 and has drawn over 2000 visitors.

The exposition containing  over 200 artworks includes Zurab Tsereteli’s paintings,  drawings, high-reliefs, round sculpture and monumental panels. In his turn, during the visit  Zurab Tsereteli has said that “the exhibition is a kind of my creative report showing  results of my long creative searches in art”. 

To quote Mintimer Shaimiev at the display: “A man of creativity is distinguished by his non-stop striving, his brain does not stop working. The art world is impossible without this”. “The fact, that Tatarstan has been involved in the jubilee events of the Russian Academy of Arts testifies to the appreciation of the contribution of the Republic’s artists to the art of this country”.  Speaking of the project to establish in Kazan an affiliate of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute,  the President noted that  “this is a succession and rebirth of traditions of Kazan art school. The enormous potential of the people of Tatarstan will be claimed. I believe, that we will execute it at the high level”.    

At the end of his visit the President of Tatarstan has written in the exhibition’s  book of comments: “I appreciate very much your exhibition commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts. You are a great artist who has succeeded in amazing the world. I wish you a longevity in the framework of Georgian folk toasts”.         

Zurab Tsereteli has presented Mintimer Shaimiev with a diploma of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. The President of Tatarstan has been awarded this honor by the resolution of the Academy’s Presidium  dated January 22, 2008 for “his significant role in promotion of arts”.

Among the attendees were Minister of Culture Zilya Baleeva, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and other officials.
