The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and Members of the Presidium of the RAA Took Part in the First Session of the Patriarch’s Council for Culture

On December 3, 2010 in the Sergievsky Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior there was the first session of the Patriarch’s Council for Culture chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The Council includes representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, legislative bodies, public organizations, figures of culture and science.

The Russian Academy of Arts has been represented by the People’s Artist of the USSR and Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA), UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli, members of the RAA Presidium: Chairman of the Artists’ Union of Russia A.N. Kovalchuk, People’s Artist of Russia V.I. Nesterenko; as well as Academicians of the RAA: People’s Artist of the USSR, Rector of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture Ilya Glazunov and People’s Artist of the USSR Alexander Shilov.

In his speech His Holiness Patriarch Kirill suggested discussing problems on the implementation of the following projects: TV project “The Patriarch’s Council for Culture Presents”; exhibition-forum “The Russian Orthodox Church. The Results of Two Decades: 1991-2011”; cultural and educational project of the Russian Orthodox Church in association with the RF Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments for provision of prisons with a cable TV system.

Among the panelists were: V.N. Ganichev; S.V. Khorkina; Y.M. Kublanovsky; A.M. Liepa; N.A. Narochnitskaya; P.P. Tolochko; N. P. Burlyaev; A.N. Kovalchuk; I.S. Glazunov.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church informed the attendees about the Regulation on the Patriarch’s Council for Culture, as well as the principle goals of the Commission for Collaboration of the Russian Orthodox Church with the museum community (the Commission was established by the Holy Synod on May 31, 2010).

For his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Russian Fine Arts and on the occasion of the 80th birth anniversary Ilya Glazunov was presented with the Order of Andrey Rublev I Rank.
