THE HISTORY OF ADAM AND EVE: MASTER CLASS OF VICTOR KALININ AND LARISA DAVYDOVA

The Russian Academy of Arts invites you to attend the master class of the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, the First Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of Russia Victor Kalinin and the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of Russia Larisa Davydova on the theme “The History of Adam and Eve”, that will take place in Tsereteli Art Gallery, 19 Prechistenka street, on May 13 at 14.00-18.00.

The paired image of the Biblical Adam and Eve is one of the popular themes in world painting which attracted eminent artists of different times. Depicting the scenes of “The Fall into Sin” and “Expulsion from Paradise” artists worked according to the canons:  the naked body was depicted in full size with keeping the perfect proportions. As Durer believed, the bodies of our forefathers in the image and likeness of God should be a model of perfect beauty. Such Adam and Eve appear in works of Durer, Titian, Michelangelo, Cranach, Klimt and many other artists.

Organized by the Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts the master class is aimed at showing how the Biblical theme is born in the creative work of contemporary artists in their original interpretation.
