"RELEVANCE OF THE IDEAS OF THE TREATY ON THE PROTECTION OF ARTISTIC AND SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS AND HISTORIC MONUMENTS...": PANEL DISCUSSION AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

On May 26, 2021 at 13.00 in the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts (19 Prechistenka street, Home Church Hall, Moscow) there will be a panel discussion "Relevance of the Ideas of the Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments - the Roerich Pact at the present stage of the society development". The panel discussion, organized by the Russian Academy of Arts and the Creative Artists' Union of Russia is being held under the auspices of the Federation Council for Science, Education and Culture, the State Duma Committee for Economic Politics, Industry, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship.

The admission is only by the invitation of the Organizers.

The Panel discussion is aimed at strengthening of the role of Russia in the international activity for preservation of the cultural heritage, increasing and improving of the nation's creative potential.

The Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments - the Roerich Pact has laid the foundations of the international law in the protection of cultural values. In 2021, we are marking the 86th anniversary  of the Roerich Pact and the 65th anniversary of signing of the Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Values In Case of War Conflicts based on the Roerich Pact.

In the development of the Roerich Pact's ideas there were signed the Convention on Preservation of the Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972), Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) and other documents.

The ideas of the Roerich Pact do not lose their relevance today. They continue to live in the UNESCO position: "In today's world of total interaction, the ability of culture to transform the society becomes apparent. Various cultural manifestations  whether valuable historical monuments, museums, traditions or contemporary art forms enrich our everyday life in various ways. The cultural heritage is an inexhaustible source of originality and contributes to the cohesion of communities, that have been fragmented by abrupt changes and economic instability.
The creativity, in its turn, promotes the construction of open, inclusive and pluralistic societies. The heritage and creativity together are the basis for dynamic, innovative and thriving knowledge societies".  

The countries that signed the Roerich Pact: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Salvador, Uruguay, Chili, USA, India.
