By the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation Zurab Tsereteli Has Been Approved as President of the Russian Academy of Arts By the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation N631-r dated April 23, 2012 Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli has been approved as the President of the Russian Academy of Arts. He was re-elected as a President of the Russian Academy of Arts for the term of five years by the 575th General Assembly of the Russian Academy of Arts on March 27, 2012. Zurab Tsereteli has been heading the Russian Academy of Arts since 1997.

In Moscow Was Unveiled a Monument to the Eminent Russian Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich On March 29, 2012 in Moscow there was an unveiling ceremony for the monument to the outstanding Russian cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich (1927-2007) whose 85th birth anniversary is being marked in Russia this year. The monument has been placed in the Bryusov Lane not far from the maestro’s house and the Moscow Conservatoire where he worked for 26 years. The authors of the monument are the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov and architect, Academician Igor Voznesensky.

Solo Show of Works by Zurab Tsereteli in Novosibirsk On March 11, 2012 the People’s Artist of the USSR and Russian Federation, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli took part in the inauguration of his solo show in the Novosibirsk State Art Museum. Before the opening ceremony he had given a master class to young artists and answered questions of the pressmen.

The Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts Discussed the First Semester Results of Students’ Work in V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute On January 24, 2012 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and members of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts visited V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute. The Rector of V. Surikov Art Institute Anatoly Lyubavin and heads of its workshops showed the results of their students’ work in the first semester of 2011-2012 academic year. The joint discussion of the students’ works was aimed at the improvement of teaching programs.
